Niels Stomps - Mist

A hydroelectric dam is being built in central China. The project, which has been underway for the past ten years, involves the repatriation of one million local residents. Niels focused on the people whose lives are being directly affected by the new dam. They live in a no-man's land: forced to take part in a mass migration which will dominate their lives for twenty years, until the project is completed. Stomps was interested to see how they dealt with this, and the effects it is having on their everyday lives. Forced to accept the inevitable, they can only stand by and watch as the changes take shape. Still, despite their seeming passivity and acceptance, they do not seem defeated. They simply adapt and continue with their lives.
